Mark Fleetwood, Head Coach
Coach Mark Fleetwood is in his first year at Huntsville High. He comes to Huntsville High from Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Ga. where his teams made the play-offs five out of six years compiling a 41-27 record. Coach Fleetwood grew up in Decatur, Ga. where he attended Lakeside High School and played for the legendary Wayman Creel. Fleetwood attended the University of South Carolina from 1979-1983 and was three-year starter as a placekicker where he earned a B.S. degree in Distributive Education. He also has a Masters degree in Education Administration from Jacksonville State University. Fleetwood was a free agent selection by the Dallas Cowboys in 1984. Coach Fleetwood is entering his 32nd year in the coaching profession. His career has included coaching stints at Jacksonville State University, Troy University, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Habersham Central High School, The Citadel, Cartersville High School and Peachtree Ridge High School. He is married to former Kimberly Gilmore of Eufaula, Alabama and they have a daughter, Irelan, who is a senior at Huntsville High.
Chris Hancock, Assistant Coach, Defensive Line
Chris Hancock has been coaching for 15 years and is beginning his first year at Huntsville High School. He begins his coaching career at Riverton Middle School as a football, softball, and baseball coach for three years. He spent the next 9 seasons as a defensive line coach, defensive coordinator and head football coach at Buckhorn High School and was an assistant coach for the 2005 State Runner-up Bucks football team. He spent one season as defensive coordinator at Sparkman High School before taking the Columbia High School head football coaching position where he spent the last three years. He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University and played for the Gamecock football program under Bill Burgess. He teaches Engineering at Huntsville High School. He is married to Susan and they have a daughter Macy.
Eddie Garfinkle, Defensive Coordinator-Linebackers
Eddie Garfinkle is beginning his first year as defensive coordinator at Huntsville High School. His previous stop was at Birmingham-Southern College where he was named head coach in February of 2008 after serving as defensive coordinator in 2007, the College’s first year of playing football since 1939. Before arriving at Birmingham-Southern, Garfinkle spent five seasons as defensive coordinator at Spain Park H.S. in Hoover, AL. He coached linebackers for five years at Georgia Southern at his previous stop. Garfinkle entered the coaching ranks at Jacksonville State University following a three-year career as starting linebacker for the Gamecocks. He began his career as a graduate assistant before being promoted to defensive line coach. He wrapped up his JSU stint as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 1986-1991. He is married to the former Jan Johnson of Jacksonville, AL. They have three grown children Katie, Elyssa, and Jake.
Tim Kreger - Safeties
Coach Kreger was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He graduated Lee High School and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. His coaching career began in 1984 at Lee High School. He has coached at Johnson High School, Huntsville Middle School, Grissom High School and now at Huntsville High. He is considered the "Legend" by many of his former football players. He has had the incredible opportunity to coach both his sons at Huntsville High, Cale Kreger gratuated 2014 and his youngest son, Jack Kreger, who is currently a senior. When not teaching or coaching football, you can find him fishing at Lake Guntersville.
Terrance Young - Receivers
Coach Young graduated from Munford High School and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from Alabama A&M University. He is beginning his 16th year at HHS and is currently teaching Algebra I and Geometry. He is also the Head Track and Field Coach. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Alecia McNeal, from Talladega, Alabama. They have three boys; twins, Terrant and Terrell (13 yrs. old) and Tyson (9 yrs. old).
Tyler Johnson - Offensive Line Coach
Coach Johnson enters his 3rd year at Huntsville High. Coach Johnson is a 2008 Huntsville High School graduate and is very happy to be back home. He previously coached at Columbia High School for two years where he was the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator for one of those years. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in Secondary Education in 2013. In 2014, Tyler married his wife Amber and they have a dog named Dixie.
John Barnes - Fullback/One
Coach Barnes enters his second year teaching and coaching at Huntsville High. He previously coached at Columbia High School for two years where he coached wide receivers and defensive backs. He received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Alabama and his teaching certificate through Athens State University. While at the University of Alabama, Coach Barnes worked in the Athletic Departmet for the football team assisting with coach's film, recruiting film and football equipment. While there, he was an integral member of three National Championship teams and two southeastern Conference Championship teams. Coach Barnes is a 2008 graduate of Huntsville High School.
Ty Cox - Assistant Offensive Line Coach and Tightends
Coach Cox is entering his first year at Huntsville High School teaching and coaching football. Coach Cox is coming to us from New Hope High School where he served as offensive coordinator. While attending the University of Alabama he served as a student assistant for the football team for three years. Coach Cox is orginally from Russellville, AL where he played for three state championships and was a team captain.
Omar McLendon - Cornerbacks
Coach McLendon is entering his first year at Huntsville High School. Coach McLendon is a four year letterman at defensive end for Middle Tennessee State University. Coach McLendon spent 3 years on Rick Stockstill's staff at MTSU. In 2013, Coach McLendon worked with the MTSU strength and conditioning staff and in 2014 moved to the field and worked with the defensive line. During his playing career (2009-2012) Coach McLendon played in 48 games, including 24 straight starts and was a part of two bowl teams. to end his career. He was voted as a permanent team captain by his teammates. Coach McLendon is from Temple, GA and earned his degree from MTSU in 2013.
Eddie Hyter - Equipment Manager
Eddie is a HHS graduate and is entering his 37th year with the sports program. Eddie's contribution to Huntsville High Football has earned him the title of "Mr. Huntsville High School". He enjoys the friendships he has made during his time at Huntsville High School.
Ben West - Assistant Equipment Manager
Ben has been the Assistant Equipment Manager for HHS football for several years. He enjoys the opportunity to interact with the players each season. Ben’s passion for football and love of helping others have made him very successful with the Panthers!
